Healthy Water? The EWG Database Report

This fast moving stream is just one of the ways water moves in our world.
Water is constantly on the move in our world.

Healthy clean water is essential to healthy life. The products we use in our homes and around our homesteads and farms all contribute to the quality of the local water supply, ground water and water shed, or fresh water aquifers which support all of life.

Recently, the Environmental Working Group (EWG), completed a database review of over 28 million documents of the records of nearly 50,000 local water utilities and this video provides a snap shot of what they found.
It’s time for all of us to pay more attention to what we put into the drains and soils around us, as we work to improve the quality of water all of life depends upon.

The Tap Water Database Video:

Here’s a brief synopsis of the findings exposed in the video, above.

  • 40,000 (over 80%) of the local water systems in the United States contained contaminants known to cause cancer.
  • Including 250 Million Americans with ‘Hexavalant Chromium’ the ‘Erin Brockovich chemical’ in their drinking water. That’s 77% of the public drinking water systems studied.
  • Another 7 Million have water with dangerous levels of Nitrates (a chemical from fertilizer runoff).
  • 19,000 water systems were identified contaminated by lead at levels that may be harmful to children.
  • A total of 250 chemicals (and counting) were detected in American drinking water, 160 of these have not had any limits set on them at all by the Federal government yet.You can learn more about the full database report at EWG’s site here.
